English Language Learner Office

Welcome to the EL Department at Bethune Middle School. We are proudly serving 321 English Learners, comprising about 23% of our student population. With the collective work of students, families, teachers and Bethune staff, we strive to provide our students with a supportive, academically rigorous program that will prepare all students for future educational opportunities and beyond.

High Point Overview
 
High Point is the program used in ELD classes for the Beginning through Advanced levels. The ELD 1 and 2 courses are taught in a block format, approximately 105 minutes each day, for one year. The program incorporates English Language Development (ELD) and English Language Arts (ELA) standards and provides students with a foundation in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking Skills.

Literature and Language
This intervention course is provided for all Long Term English Learners who scored below 280 on the most recent English CST scores.  The curriculum used in this course is called English 3D.

Advanced ELD
This intervention course is provided for all Long Term English Learners who scored above 280 on the most recent English CST scores.  The curriculum used in this course is The Readers Handbook and Write Source.
